Two writers,
one reason to keep going.

Beyond Noise is the two of us: married, always at the same gigs, and eventually fed up of only talking about them in the car on the way home. So we started writing it all down.

The real reason it exists is motivation. Music is the thing we both love without hesitation, in any form: a set list, a photo from the pit, a twenty-minute chat with a support act outside the venue. We wanted somewhere to put that energy instead of letting it drift, and somewhere to point people at bands who deserve a bigger room than the one they've got. For Carla it's personal too. Since losing her mum, this has been one of the things that's kept her going, and that's not something we're about to let go quiet.

DJ and Cat Dad James has spent the last 14 years honing the highest-quality edits in the land. He's the kind of crate-digger who treats a living room of two people like a festival mainstage, rearranging a disco classic into a punk montage before the cat finishes its bowl. His studio is a shrine of warped vinyl, broken needles and one judgemental feline who hates every transition.

Carla

Editor / Wife / Photographer / Founder

Photographer, keyboard captain and lead writer for reviews and editorials. I'm the reason there's something to read here the morning after a gig, and the reason James has a deadline to hit in the first place. Music is my escape and gigs are my therapy. There's usually a camera in my hand and a cup of tea going cold somewhere nearby that I've forgotten about. At home I'm a human jukebox, cat mum to Biscuit & Crumb, and occasionally caught plucking bass chords — mainly powered by horror films, caffeine and 80s rock synths.

A female ginger Maine Coon with the demeanour of a jaded rock critic and the fur to match. Rarely impressed. Occasionally purrs.

Head of Chaos

Biscuit's younger sister. Two-face: half ginger, half tabby, all trouble. The energy levels of a caffeine addict at a matinee gig. Will absolutely knock your pint over.
